I first became aware of nature spirits as a child.  Of course I didn't refer to them as such, but I knew they were there, without any doubt.  Decades later, after reading Kay Cordell-Whitaker's book, The Reluctant Shaman, I became intrigued and impressed with the presence and power of nature spirits all over again.
